In the video below, physicians can stay current on the top health care issues deliberated by state policymakers and legislators during the spring/summer 2013-2014 legislative session and see what’s on tap for this fall.
As director of legislative affairs at the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED), David Thompson spends much of his time communicating with legislators and keeping tabs on the hundreds of bills that impact physicians and their patients. Ultimately, Thompson says that PAMED’s goal is for legislators to consistently call on their physician constituents when they need input on a particular bill.
Thompson and Hannah Walsh, PAMED’s associate director of legislative affairs, share their insiders’ perspectives on issues such as medical student loans, Lyme disease, tanning regulations, intraoperative monitoring, childhood immunizations, team-based health care, and a tool that could help physicians fight prescription drug abuse.
