The American Medical Association (AMA) recently released an updated Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) Toolkit that offers a wealth of information for physician practices interested in implementing or maximizing the utility of this standard electronic transaction.
The toolkit includes the following topics:
- Getting started with ERA provides a basic overview of the ERA and its content, describes the advantages of automating remittance processing, and offers tips for ERA enrollment. It also describes the standardized code sets used in the ERA by all payers and what they mean to the practice.
- Critical conversations with trading partners about ERA provides questions to ask health plans, clearinghouses, and practice management system vendors about their ERA handling and capabilities and describes how other stakeholders impact practices receiving the ERA.
- ERA processing tips offers ERA processing flows and tips for practices, and information on handling overpayment recovery and non-claim-related adjustments in an automated fashion. This section also discusses the advantages of implementing the ERA with standard electronic funds transfer.
To learn more about ERA, the AMA is holding a free webinar, “ERAse Payment Issues with ERA,” on July 9 at 10 a.m. ET. Register now for the webinar, which will highlight ERA processing tips and feature a demonstration of the Claims Workflow Assistant code look-up tool. If you can’t make the webinar, don’t worry, an archive will be available as an archived webinar on the ERA toolkit webpage shortly after the live broadcast.
